Which problem should your redesign solve?

Every redesign starts from a different situation. That is why we do not rebuild a website to a fixed template. We first work out which problems it actually has. Do you recognize your own situation here?

Outdated technology

WordPress, your theme, or your plugins are outdated, hard to maintain, or no longer safe to update. Every change costs time and carries the risk that something else breaks.

The website no longer fits the brand

The company has moved on, the website has not. It still shows an older positioning, an outdated brand identity design, or a level of quality that no longer matches what you deliver today.

The offering is not understood

Services and focus areas are described from the company’s point of view, not from the audience’s. Prospects realize too late whether they are in the right place, and they leave.

The structure has grown over the years

Pages were added again and again, but never reorganized. Navigation and entry points no longer lead to the content people actually look for.

Editing is not possible without a service provider

You cannot update content or create new pages yourself. Every change needs outside help, costs time, and slows down marketing and sales.

User guidance and mobile display

Navigation, contact options, and the display on a smartphone do not work reliably. Prospects drop off before they get in touch.

Too little visibility on Google

Content, site structure, and technical foundations are not strong enough to be found for the relevant searches. New inquiries come almost entirely through referrals.

The three terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe projects of very different size. The difference determines effort and budget.

Visual redesign

The design is renewed. Structure, content, and technology stay as they are. A good fit when the website works but no longer matches your brand.

More on this under web design.

Full redesign

Structure, content, user guidance, design, and technology are reworked together. A good fit when several of the problems above apply at once.

Technical upgrade

WordPress, the theme, and the components are brought up to date while the existing site stays in place. A good fit when the technical base is the only problem.

A redesign that only looks more modern does not solve the underlying problems. It has to fit your current brand, communicate your content clearly, stay manageable day to day, and create a foundation for visibility.

These four levels come from one team:

  • brand understanding and digital design
  • clear content and user guidance
  • WordPress implementation and maintainability
  • SEO and technical quality assurance

For you that means fewer interfaces. You do not coordinate between a brand agency, a web designer, a WordPress provider, and an SEO consultant. You have one point of contact for all four.

How your website redesign works, in 7 steps

At every point you know what happens next, what we need from you, and what will be ready at the end of the step.

1. Analysis of the existing website

We review the existing website: technical base, content, structure, maintainability, brand impact, and current visibility on Google.

2. Defining goals and scope

From the analysis we develop the redesign plan. Depending on the starting point, the focus is on technology, design, content, structure, maintenance, or visibility.

3. Planning content and site structure

We reorganize content, services, and pages so that a structure emerges that explains your offering clearly. How we develop structure and content in detail is described under website concept.

4. Developing design and user guidance

We translate your brand into a contemporary digital presence and align design, navigation, and mobile display with each other.

5. Building the website in WordPress

We implement the approved concept in a separate staging environment. Your existing website stays online and unchanged until launch. The new site is built so that you can maintain content yourself day to day.

6. Securing visibility and preparing the launch

Search engine optimization is part of the project from the start. Before launch we check URLs, redirects, internal links, page titles, meta descriptions, the sitemap, and indexing. You can find more about our services in the area of SEO.

7. Supporting the launch and developing the site further

After launch we check functions, redirects, and indexing. That way we make sure your website is reliably found after the redesign. On request we then take over maintenance, monitoring, and further development.

Technology, loading times, and user experience

How a modern website looks decides the first impression. How fast and how reliably it works decides whether someone stays.

During implementation we pay attention to:

  • fast loading times, including on image-heavy pages and mobile connections
  • responsive web design that works equally well on smartphone, tablet, and desktop
  • a user experience that takes visitors to their goal without detours
  • a technical base that can be maintained and extended
  • a CMS your team can work with without technical knowledge

After launch we take over maintenance, updates, and further development on request.

Securing visibility during the redesign

A redesign can create the basis for better rankings. It can also damage visibility built up over years if URLs, content, or internal links are changed without control. This often becomes noticeable only weeks later, when rankings and traffic decline.

That is why we check before every launch:

  • which existing pages and URLs bring visibility today
  • which content is carried over, revised, or written new
  • which redirects from old to new URLs are needed
  • whether important pages remain indexable
  • whether internal links need to be adjusted
  • whether the sitemap, canonicals, and robots.txt are set up correctly
  • whether content is structured clearly for people, search engines, and AI systems

This creates an SEO foundation for the redesign that helps preserve existing organic visibility and build on it sensibly. Whether the redesign worked becomes measurable after a few months, through rankings, traffic, and inquiries.

No specific ranking position can be guaranteed. Avoidable losses from missing redirects or lost content can be reduced considerably.

Why MWIMMERDESIGN as your website redesign agency

We are an owner-managed design agency in Munich, founded in 2001. We combine brand strategy, brand identity design, concept, web design, and WordPress implementation.

What determines scope, timeline, and cost of a WordPress redesign

How big a redesign becomes depends less on the number of pages than on how much is created new and how much can be carried over. Two websites of the same size can be very different projects.

The effort stays manageable when

  • site structure and navigation stay largely in place
  • existing content is carried over and revised
  • a current brand identity design is available
  • image material exists and can be used
  • the website is in one language

The effort grows when

  • site structure, navigation, and user guidance are developed from scratch
  • content is written new rather than carried over
  • the positioning changes and the design is created new
  • a new visual language has to be built
  • several languages and a large stock of old URLs are added

That is why we do not quote a flat price before we know the starting point. After the analysis you receive a proposal that lists services, milestones, and assumptions separately. Optional modules are listed on their own so that you can control the scope yourself. Changes to the scope are agreed with you before they create cost.

If the budget is limited, a redesign can be planned in stages. For example the technical upgrade and the most important pages first, then the content work.

Frequently asked questions about website redesign

When does a website redesign make sense?

A redesign makes sense when the existing website is technically outdated, no longer fits the brand, presents content in a confusing way, or cannot be maintained properly day to day. When several of these apply at once, a light revision is usually not enough.

Is a visual redesign enough, or do we need a full redesign?

That depends on the starting point. If mainly the design no longer fits, a visual redesign can be enough. If structure, content, user guidance, or technology also need fundamental work, a full redesign is the better choice.

How long does a website redesign take?

That depends on how much is created new. If structure and content are largely carried over, a redesign is considerably faster than a project with new positioning and newly written content. In our experience the biggest influence on the schedule is how quickly content is supplied and how internal approvals run on the client side. After the analysis we give you a concrete schedule with milestones.

Does our current website stay online during the redesign?

Yes. We develop the new website in a separate staging environment. Your existing website stays reachable and unchanged until launch, and you can see the work in progress at any time before it goes public.

What do we have to contribute as a company?

Mainly subject matter content, existing image material, access to hosting and domain, and one fixed contact for approvals. Copy and structure we develop together with you.

Is SEO considered during the redesign?

Yes. SEO is taken into account from the start, in the concept, the content structure, the design, and the technical implementation.

What happens to our existing Google rankings?

Existing rankings cannot be guaranteed. By checking URLs, content, redirects, internal links, and technical indexing, unnecessary losses in visibility can be avoided.

Can we maintain the website ourselves after the redesign?

The WordPress site is structured so that content can be updated independently and with as little friction as possible. The exact scope is agreed within the project.

Does MWIMMERDESIGN build websites with WordPress?

Yes. The technical implementation is done with WordPress. Other content management systems we implement with partners when a project calls for it.

Does MWIMMERDESIGN work with companies outside Munich?

Yes. We work with companies in Munich, in the surrounding region, and across Germany. Workshops and coordination take place in person or online, depending on the project.

Does MWIMMERDESIGN provide support after launch?

By arrangement we support the post-launch check, any adjustments that are needed, and the further development of the website.
