Explainer Video on Fire Scene Hygiene for Fire Services
Project duration: July 2019 – April 2020
From July 2019 to April 2020, MWIMMERDESIGN designed and produced an animated educational video on scene hygiene for fire departments in Germany on behalf of the German Social Accident Insurance.

Client and Project
The commissioning parties are the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), Department of Fire Services, Emergency Assistance, and Fire Protection, as well as the Baden-Württemberg Accident Insurance Fund.
MWIMMERDESIGN was tasked with creating an animated explanatory video for employee training, as well as for presentation at trade shows and online. The collaboration ran from July 2019 to April 2020.
Background
Contamination from fire debris poses a health risk to firefighters; poor or inadequate hygiene at the scene of an incident can also lead to the spread of this contamination to colleagues and family members. Many firefighters were either unaware of this issue or considered it to be of minor importance.
The film is aimed at firefighters in Germany. Until now, the topic has been communicated within fire departments at most through a little-noticed poster in the station; the explanatory film is intended to achieve a wider reach and encourage more in-depth engagement with the topic.
Strategy
To present this relatively dry topic in an entertaining way, a concept was developed for the film—based on the core idea of a “video game”—to illustrate the individual hygiene steps. The main character, firefighter Fanny, runs through an urban landscape and completes tasks at checkpoints, such as removing her breathing apparatus or changing her clothes.
All elements were designed specifically for this film, from character design and world-building to icons and the graphical interface. The film’s messages are conveyed through on-screen text rather than a narrator to enhance the video game feel; music and sound effects support this concept.
Implementation
Working closely with the client, we created a film that uses striking imagery and typography with the goal of achieving the desired educational impact.
